ICD-10-CM code lookup

Search the FY2027 ICD-10-CM list, in force from October 1, 2026, by code (F41.1, f411) or by words (generalized anxiety). The list comes from CDC's National Center for Health Statistics and has every billable code.

The search runs in your browser on a copy of the list it downloads once (about 6 MB), so what you type stays on your device.

Each has a page with what the code covers, its includes and excludes, related codes and billing notes.

How ICD-10-CM codes work

ICD-10-CM is the US version of the WHO's ICD-10, kept by CDC's National Center for Health Statistics. A code has three to seven characters: a letter, a number and up to five more after the dot. Only a code at the end of its branch is billable; a category such as F41 is a heading, and a claim needs a code under it, such as F41.1.

Includes notes list conditions coded there. An Excludes1 note means the two conditions are never coded together; an Excludes2 note means the excluded condition isn't part of this code, but a patient can have both, and both may be coded.

A new release takes effect every 1 October. Code the date of service against the release in force that day.

ICD-10-CM in CloudMedico

In CloudMedico, a visit's diagnoses come from the current ICD-10-CM list. For US practices, the visit flags a code that isn't billable on its date, and a superbill made from an invoice carries the visit's diagnoses.

Frequently asked questions

Which ICD-10-CM release is this?

The FY2027 release, in force for dates of service from October 1, 2026. It is CDC's code descriptions file, unchanged.

What does billable mean?

A billable code has no codes under it, so it is as specific as the classification goes. Claims need billable codes; a category with codes under it is rejected.

Is what I type sent anywhere?

No. The page downloads the code list once and searches it in your browser.

Can I use these codes outside the US?

ICD-10-CM is the US modification. Germany uses ICD-10-GM and Spain CIE-10-ES; CloudMedico has a lookup for each.
